Sue Ryder Guitars

I was in a Sue Ryder shop the other day and saw what looked not unlike a fiesta red P-bass in the window.

It's one of a range of guitars designed with the help of Mark Griffiths http://www.suerydercareshop.com/brand/87/Sue_Ryder_Care_Guitars. They include strat-alikes tele-alikes and other familiar shapes. I decided to invest.

I road-tested it at Warwick Club in Sunday and numerous approving noises were made about its appearance and sound.

I am very pleased with it. And only £59!!

Does anyone else have experience of these?

i think mark griffiths was using a ryder bass?

Its amazing what you can get in the guitar market and not cost a fortune.
Many cheap guitars only need a tweak here and there to make them a good instrument.
Like I've said before, my Squeir Bullet is a great buy for 70odd quid. I've recently upgraded the pickups and it now sounds as good if not better than the Jap Strat I bought in the eighties. And the action is much much better Its only downfall was the tremolo unit, but I got that sorted last week. The guitar store I've always done business with sold me an old unit(better quality one) from a scrapped guitar they had in the shop. Only charged me a fiver for it.
Unfortunately it was one of the black coated ones, so I painted the plate red similar to the guitars finish and swapped the bridge chrome adjustment fittings over and it looks and plays great without the waggley trem arm like before

Just checked the Ryder site there.....that white tele looks the business does'nt it. Ok for bedroom use anyway I'd reckon.

I'm fairly certain than Mark played one of these on the Cliff/Shadows appearance at the Royal Variety Show. I'm also fairly certain the prices were a lot higher originally...

The bass doesn't appear on the website.

The bass was on the website a month ago so I wonder if they have now sold out apart from what may remain in individual Sue Ryder shops.

The bass was launched at £117 so it's now half price if you can get it.

I also heard that Mark had used one on stage with the Shads but I can't confirm it from the YouTube footage of the RV Show.

I've got a feeling the Chantry branded guitars of recent years came from Sue Ryder shops - either that or the shop I went in had a job lot of new guitars! My local Cash Converters had a lot of cheap new Martin Smith acoustics in stock - though they knocked them out cheap in the end and haven't replaced them. Everyone's on the band wagon.
