I also like very much the first Hank's album and the Burns sound and the effects he used. I also agree "Guitar Man" though beautifully played is not a very interesting album but now business comes first. I also think Hank doesn't want to take his head now to make a more adventurous album. The Shadows or himself sold less albums when they recorded original tunes than covers, and now the albums sales are nothing compared with the sales in the 60s, 70s or 80s.
I wish him to be happy with the style he plays now.

When I first heard 'Guitar Man' I have to admit to being very disappointed. Having said that, I bought the red strat cover edition after buying the white just to have both. There are some versions on there of some of my most unfavourite songs. However, if you persevere, the album grows on you (did someone say 'like mould'?). Very stylish playing but not really inspiring.
Now I'll throw my tongs in the fire:
Isn't it about time the Man Himself released a Gipsy Jazz album? I know this is going a little off topic, but 'Guitar Man' probably suggests that it's time to move on. But, of course, will the record company let him? The company probably feels justified in its release of 'Guitar Man' because it reached no 5 in the Woolworth chart (remember Woolworth?).
I have a couple of Hank's jazz tracks which are on a Que Cum Bar album, so he's cutting them.
Roll on.
Colin.

A gypsy jazz album is an interesting idea but i'm not sure how the record company would react (im not even sure if he has a recording contract at the moment though i doubt it). He could self finance it and release it on the web maybe (i'd buy it!). But at his time of life does he want to continue recording? remember he's semi retired now.
