Who can help ?

I have always understood the following tracks feature Jet on bass, as the concert took place in March, 1962, not November, 1961:
1. Nivram.
2. Do You Wanna Dance.
3. Kon-Tiki.
4. Midnight.

The following then, feature Brian Locking on bass and harmonica ("Stranger On The Shore"), as the concert took place in September, 1962, again not November, 1961:
1. Shazam.
2. Guitar Boogie or Shadoogie.
3. Stranger On The Shore.
4. The Frightened City.
5. Man of Mystery.

If this is correct then the track listing on the new CD is the same as the bootleg copies which I had always thought had Jet on Bass for Nivram and Kon-Tiki and knew he was on Bass for Midnight, as he actually introduces the number. Will be interesting to see if this is the case. By the way the bootleg copies also have Apache as the final number with I'm sure Jet on Bass.

John,

Do you still intend to release the expanded version of Let Me Tell You Baby It's Called Rock 'n' Roll on CD? And if so, when?

According to the Jet's Story chapter in the 1961 publication The Shadows By Themselves, Jet struggled for two months to get a note out of the clarinet be bought, because "he liked the look of it", after seeing one regularly played at the Mapleton Club, before trading it in for a double bass! Perhaps, he was tempted to take it up again at some point. ;)

As far as I know the only instruments Licorice played on stage with the Shads were bass guitar, double bass and harmonica. So I think his Stranger on the Shore would have been done on harmonica.

HI

When I saw the band in May 1962 with Licorice, he played Stranger of the Shore on the Harmonica

As has been mentioned, a bootleg exists and it's titled, Hank, Brian, Bruce & Brian - The Shadows Live In Paris 1962. The track listing is;
Shazam, Shadoogie, Stranger On The Shore, The Frightened City, Man Of mystery, Nivram, Do You Wanna' Dance (v), Kon Tiki, Midnight and Apache. If the title is correct, then 'Lic' is playing clarinet. HTH.

I'm sure it's a harmonica that Lic played on 'Stranger...' His brief flirtation with the clarinet was when he was young and it may have been a toy rather than a real instrument. There was one show where Lic was playing SotS and an over-jealous stagehand, realising it was not a vocal, started to wind the mic down into the stage. Lic - trouper that he is - kept palying all the way...

After checking the CD for the track listing, I should have listened to it :? it was indeed Lic playing harmonica. ;)
