Thanks for that information, Ulrich. And thanks to those who have posted or emailed scans of EP covers so far (especially to Didier, who has sent many French EP sleeves in high resolution by email). The French EPs will be added after I have uploaded all of the UK items I am likely to be able to get hold of, and then I'll add the Australian and other overseas scans.

Mark (Daniels): would it be possible to have a copy of the "suits" version of "Los Shadows" in better resolution (300 dpi min), please?

You can pm me for my email address.

Best wishes,

JN

Many thanks to Mark and to Didier for the files received by email. I'm working on them.

In the meantime, I have added scans of the covers of "Those Brilliant Shadows" (UK version 1964), "Rhythm And Greens" (1974), "Thunderbirds Are Go!" (1966) and the alternative "suits" version of the front of the "Los Shadows" EP from 1963.

More to come in due course...

Hi Jim,
I've got an a fairly extensive collection of EP's including a lot of foreign ones. In the UK section I've got quitew a few stereo as well as monos - I'll have to look at them over the weekend.
One I haven't noticed before is that scan of Slaughter On 5th Avenue (Slaughter On 5th Avenue?)!

George mentioned the Shadows "2+2" record earlier in this thread. It was never regarded as an EP in Germany despite the four tracks which would qualify it as an EP.
Perhaps similar to the UK single "Apache" b/w "Wonderful Land" + "F.B.I." (Columbia DB 8958, reissued EMI 2573) compared with the French 3-track EP "Little B" b/w "Cosy" + "The Rumble" (ESDF 1447 / ESRF 1443).
Anyway, I have posted scans of front and back of the sleeve in the same gallery as the other German EPs.

Merry Xmas,

Ulrich

An update on the EP-sleeve scanning project...

http://shadowmusic.bdme.co.uk/gallery/album.php?album_id=20

The following 29 EP sleeves have now been uploaded to the gallery (UK releases except where indicated differently):

The Shadows (a/k/a Mustang)
The Shadows No 2
The Shadows No 3
Dream
(Cliff/Shadows)
The Boys
Dance On With The Shadows
Out Of The Shadows No 1
Dance With The Shadows No 1
Dance With The Shadows No 3
Expresso Bongo
(South African stereo pressing)
The Shadows To The Fore
Wonderful Land Of The Shadows
Foot Tapping With The Shadows
Los Shadows
(both the "hats" and "cathedral" cover shots)
Shindig With The Shadows
Those Brilliant Shadows
(UK version and tracklisting)
Rhythm And Greens
Thunderbirds Are Go!
The Shadows On Stage And Screen
Feelin' Fine
(France)
Apache (France)
Cliff No 1
Cliff No 2
Wonderful Life
(Denmark version)
The Frightened City/Kon-Tiki (France)
The Savage/Wonderful Land (France)
Guitar Tango (France)
Theme For Young Lovers (France)
Stingray (France)

I have one more French EP sleeve (provided by Didier) to clean up and upload - "Late Night Set". I'll get that done as soon as possible. Image restoration is an engaging - but time-consuming - activity!

Best wishes,

JN

Acknowledgements:

Many thanks to both Didier Parot (of France) and Keld Sorenson (of Denmark) for the copies they provided. Some of the EP scans were available from different sources (thanks, folks!), and I used the best images of the least-damaged examples. Some examples sent were of too low resolution to be used.

I'm still looking for HQ (at least 3Mb per image) scans of the following EP sleeves (back and front) in order to complete the UK examples in the ShadowMusic Community gallery:

Spotlight On The Shadows (SEG 8135) (I only need the reverse - I have a good scan of the front, and it's easy to restore)
Out Of The Shadows No 1 (SEG8249 or ESG 7895)
Dance With The Shadows No 2 (SEG 8375)
Themes From Aladdin (SEG 8396)
Alice In Sunderland (SEG 8445)
The Sound Of The Shadows (No 1) (SEG 8459)
The Sound Of The Shadows No 2 (SEG 8473)
The Sound Of The Shadows No 3 (SEG 8494)
Those Talented Shadows (SEG 8500)

Thanks in advance for any assistance anyone can give with these.

As you can see on the French EP covers for "Theme for young lovers" and "Guitar tango", the Shadows were left handed at this time ! ;)

Hi Folks,

New member here - Dave Litten (http://www.davelitten.com)

Been playing since 1962 and a Hank and the Shads devotee since then!

Anyway, I do a little photoshop stuff, nothing fancy but I do retouch old photo's from time to time.

I took one of those above and played around for 10 minutes - did a little gamma correction, and came up with the attached.

Could be improved....it's been crudely cut out!

Look forward to getting involved with you folks!

PS. I now live in Spain - previous from the Aldershot/Southampton area in the UK

63 year-old going on 19....
