Walt,

Here's a list of Ventures piecesthat became popular here. Can you tell me who played lead on these when the Ventures first relased them? (Comments from thers will be welcome, of course.)

Walk Don’t Run
No Trespassing
Sleepwalk
Bulldog
Lullaby of the Leaves
Rawhide
Trambone
Perfidia
Torquay
Ghost Riders in the Sky
Mr. Moto
Gandy Dancer
Telstar
Twilight Zone
Out of Limits

Very interesting idea - an album with Nokie (and Don) playing the Shadows. It could be packaged with the Shadows playing the Ventures.

Regards to all.

I know I'm kind of late with this ! But in response to the 'Ventures Limited Edition Stratocaster' I own one and it is my main guitar. I often use it at the 'SMSE' club. The mid boost circuit, though not quite as powerful as on the 'Eric Clapton Stratocaster' Is still very useful on any rock solo should you require any extra mid / gain. Though since I now use 'Mesa Boogie' I really can't remember the last time I used the Boost. The one other useful thing with this guitar is that the tone control is active on all pickups. I may not be very keen on the group themselves, but I do love playing that guitar !

Hi all,

Hope everyone is doing Ok and that Jet is feeling better.
Maybe this DVD has been mentioned as I havn't read the whole thread.
At the 2005 NAMM show in L.A, I had the honour of sharing the "Minarik Guitar" and the "Dixon Amps" stages both with Dick Dale and
Nokie Edwards. Tim Wilson (Don's son) gave me the original 1964, 1966 "Beloved Invaders - The Ventures" DVD with Japanese
commentaries and text. It features a Japanese Documentary and the arrival of the Ventures (really young then) and their visit to the
city, the venue and the full show. It's a historical and delightful 1h 22 mn video. He also gave me the "The Ventures - HAWAII 5.0" music video.
I am loading the DVD menu, I hope it works:
Blessings to all,
Abel.

You can see clips of that DVD here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TwSnT8DPWSU

It's great if you can find a DVD copy. Only problem w/it is since the audio/video were not recorded at the same time, there's a sync problem. It's worth having/viewing if you're a V fan of the Mosrite era.

Also you can try finding the DVD by the M-Ventures. Clips here:

These guys are a Japanese tribute band that dress/play indentically to the Ventures on their 1965 Japan Tour.

Thank you, Walt.

Best regards,

My favourite instrumental albums are the Shadows first (of course) and the Ventures first. Strangely, the latter wasn’t released in the UK until 1962 when the Liberty/Dolton catalogue transferred to EMI. If people think the Shadows got a raw deal regarding exposure in the USA, the Ventures got a poor deal in the UK with 3 label / distribution changes in 2 years and throughout the 60s many albums not released.

The Ventures poor handling by EMI has continued - has anyone compared the CD version of “The 2000 Pound Bee part 2” with the original 1962 vinyl 45 ? Am I the only one who has noticed that the CD version has the brilliant wild (for 1962) lead guitar solo overdub missing!

Blue Moon would be Bob, Andy.
That was on the Colorful Ventures LP. Blue Moon had 2 diffrent endings depending on whether you had the mono or stereo version of the LP.
We know for certain that Nokie played at least 3 trax on that LP: Yellow Jacket, Orange Fire, and Red Top.

I'm not suprised about the V raw deal, Ian. They got screwed stateside by Liberty records followed by the takeover of Liberty by United Artists. Once that happened it was over for them here. That's when they left us for Japan...permanently.....1968.

What screwed the Shads here was the release of Apache by that Swedish guy rather than them. How'd that happen?
