Taking The Ryders for a ride

Last year Lennart Clerwall and Kurt Froberg of The Ryders came from Sweden to the Scarborough Gala and they enjoyed it so much that it inspired Lenny to write a Theme for Scarborough. They returned to this years event and brought the whole band with them. This was The Ryders first visit appearance in the UK and they went down a storm.
After a packed weekend they were entertained on Monday by taking them for a trip on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway in a 1909 saloon coach. They were amazed to see that the engine carried a special headboard just for them. Here they are pictured before the return journey.

The locomotive looks like a BR Standard tank class used on the London Oxted line before electric traction on this route.A mate of mine fired the last steam train on this route.

Derek

The loco is indeed a BR Standard Tank. The NYMR also has 80135. Both of these engines were allocated to Plaistow shed and would have been worked on by a young fireman, Joe Brown before his music took him away from the railways.

80136 & 80135’s younger sister, 80078 has been at Mangaps near Burnham on Crouch the last few weeks after having had a major overhaul. She is off to the Epping & Ongor Railway before going to the Mid Hants. for the rest of the summer. Classic locos.
