Are the Shadows unique?

Postby Uncle Fiesta » Sat Oct 28, 2017 1:09 pm

Each month, I attend at least two Shadows Club meetings. There are three not far from me, and another in reasonably easy reach. A glance through the recently-renovated Clubs Area shows 26 clubs, to say nothing of those clubs that aren't in our list; also there are a few overseas.

So here's my question. Are the Shadows the only band that have inspired this phenomenon? I've yet to hear of any Beatles Clubs, Stones Clubs, Floyd Clubs, Eminem Clubs, etc. Do they exist? Or are we the only ones? And why?

Well, there are plenty of open mic sessions but I imagine that Shads clubs are unique. Just as well they exist as I can play guitar but wouldn't call myself a singer  !

There is still active interest similar to that of the Shads clubs, websites, festivals, backing tracks etc..in the Ventures.

The Fans of the Ventures website is worth a look..

Not to mention Beatles fans etc of course...

I spoke to Bruce some time ago at the Surrey Shads Club and he said that, as far as he knows, they are the only band with dedicated clubs up and down the Country

There is 'Beach Boys Britain' but they don't have much event wise any more in recent times. They are still on Facebook and the message board still exists. http://www.boards2go.com/boards/board.cgi?user=Bellagio

Are the Shadows unique?

Of course they are!!

And I, personally, have always felt that despite their undoubted brilliance, the Beach Boys were always a bit more of a niche band than the Shadows in their hey day. I imagine their music is very appealing in California, but maybe less so in Colorado or Connecticut.

Well that's the first time I've ever seen the Beach Boys described as a "niche" band. In excess of 100 million record sales worldwide? I'm a huge Shads fan but these comparisons don't do them any favours.

But does anyone get together, as a club, to sing Beach Boys songs? I rather doubt it.

Shame, I would rather enjoy that! (Even though, as time passes, I'm finding it more and more difficult to hit the high notes.)
