Wish List For the 60th Anniversary

So, 60 wonderful years of Shadow music coming up. I for one count myself lucky to have been able to enjoy the music, concerts, tv programs, DVD’s etc. etc. for so long.
I guess now we know it’s unlikely we shall see anything particularly new to celebrate the 60th anniversary, but concerts and new original album aside, if we were to see anything new, what would people like to see. My short list would be:

1) Compilation DVD of unissued material like the complete Shads set from the Thank You Very Much and The Event concerts – that’s if the material exists of course.

2) The BBC recordings – this sounds like it may be the most feasible from previous posts.

3) I know many are not so happy with the Polydor recordings, so how about taking some of the very best ones and remixing them as people have suggested with Bruce more to the front of the mix etc. Come on Warren that should be an interesting project!

4) Hopefully Brian’s book should be about later in the year, but how about an update to Bruce’s Rock N Roll I Gave You The Best Years of My Life.
Those are my starters, any others?

Graham

Judging from the number of soundboard recordings in good quality or remaster, that are now
being issued legally on Box Sets i.e. Zepplin, Yes, King Crimson etc, one wonders if The Shadows
might have had some done this way (probably not) for live concerts late 60s/70s?
Certainly we have had official album issues over the years on live material from all rock band outfits,
now it seems a lot has been stockpiled for use now.
Wonder if some is worth the 40- 50 year wait for release?

Mike

All above Graham wrote and what about the complete 1984 Together concert on a decent dvd/blu ray quality!
If I'm alowed to say....Hank re-record his soundtrack of the first part of the 2004 tour dvd....

Cheers Rob

I agree about the 1984 performances. What exactly don't you like about Hank's guitar track on the 2004 performances? It sounds somewhat distorted on a few tracks. Despite this, I wouldn't change anything from it, as it wouldn't be a genuine live recording anymore.

Definitely NOT re-record Hank's guitar parts from the 2004 live recordings! It sounds fine to me and what's the odd bit of distortion among friends?!! ;)

I LOVE the idea of 1970s and 80s soundboard / mixing desk live recordings being given a good polish and released. There are some absolute classics out there and with a little bit of work they could be made to sound professional enough to be released.

I can't see the BBC recordings EVER seeing the light of day, officially anyway, as I think the time has come and gone and there seem to be multiple rights issues. Also, dare I say that I imagine that both Cliff AND (by association) the Shads will be persona non grata as far as the Beeb are concerned at the moment!

What I would especially like to see (hear?) would be any completed but unreleased tracks that the Shads might be willing to approve for issue. There MUST be a few more on the shelf that are more or less acceptable or have maybe just been overlooked?

As you know, I did send a very extensive proposal to the BBC at least a year ago for a 'Shadows @ the BBC' programme, but never received a reply. So that more or less tells us the extent to which that is likely! However, they did a lot of work for ITV (especially ATV) in the 1960s and beyond, so maybe a clips programme from them might be feasible?

As far as reunions/live work goes, I suspect that there is a very good chance that we will see both Brian and Bruce guesting with Cliff when he plays the UK later this year. I also suspect that if the tour is extended to take in Australia, then Hank will get up and do a few songs with him for sure. Otherwise, I doubt that anything will happen.

I think the best we can hope for, realistically, is a programme (on ITV) dedicated to Cliff's 60th anniversary - with some inclusion of the Shadows therein.

And I agree that Brian's book will probably - for us - be the highlight!

As for unreleased stuff, i'm not an expert but i do believe there is tracks in either almost or in a complete finished state. I'm unsure if they have names, someone else here (unsure who) has more knowledge of what exactly lies in the vaults, and will probably remain there slowly oxidising away.
