A heads-up: the next issue of GT - due 9th May - should include a feature on Bruce Welch's rhythm playing.

Should be very interesting. Over the years, a lot of attention has gone to Hank's playing style, but Bruce's is well worth investigating too.

Indeed so. All Shadows members over the years (lead, rhythm, bass and drums) contributed to that sound by the way they played their instruments.

As I said elsewhere, recently........if you know someone who thinks The Shads are all about Hank's immaculate phrasing, play 'em 'Cotton Pickin' 'Shimmy', 'Temptation', 'Tonight', The Savage. If they still don't get it.....give up on 'em! They'll never understand The Shads.
BTW Iain, great night down 'The Spa' the other night. Got away with it again (just!)
Love to all,
Mart

Two of my favourites featuring the rhythm playing of Bruce are The Boys and Quatermasster's Stores; both powerful and driving the numbers along. Superb.

Funnily enough, Graham, I've just been bashing out QMS for the benefit of the local populace about half an hour ago....(you may have heard me). They seem to enjoy it!

Hello Martin, it's great to 'see' you. I understand Bruce played QMS on a Jazzmaster, but I can't be sure. Truly brilliant track! By the way, have Legend any gigs planned down East Yorkshire way or are the locals too troublesome to risk it? I know of a couple of dodgy characters in Hessle. All the best to the guys from Paul and myself.
