I wonder if Dick’s recollection is from the recordings of THE SHADOWS AT THEIR VERY BEST, which would explain why it was recorded at Honeyhill.

Here's a pic of the guitar, the underscore says OM21...

Dave, just one suggested correction - I think Cavatina would have been recorded at either CTS studios (Wembley) or Abbey Road - I seem to recall CTS at least being mentioned on the String of Hits sleeve notes (and 1978/9 may well pre-date Honeyhill).

Chris - I had no idea that video existed until I saw it over the weekend on youtube. So it was an official video, was it?

I imagine it must have been an official promo video... or an insert for a TV programme. Either way, a brilliant little snapshot of the Shads during their 1979 renaissance. Strangely, if you listen, the video has been re-dubbed with the 1989 version. I have a version that is much older than the one I linked to on youtube.

And I am pretty sure that the Shads never used Brian's studio for recording until the 1980s. I think the first time was 1982 for 'Life in the Jungle'.

Nice one Rob. I’m sure that’s the guitar that Bruce handed to Macca - he told us so on one of those online magazine interviews that he did with Lee Hodgson

This is a confusing thread.

I believed that Bruce played Argentina except for the introduction, which was overdubbed. Is this correct? That’s what it says in the Shadows Music guide book previously mentioned.

That would be possible, as the original 1979 version was engineered by Peter Vince.

The caption may well say that, but the guitar in the picture is still an OO-18E.

The OM model is a completely different size and shape and was never supplied with the DeArmond 2000 OEM pickup. Only that OO model and one in the D range were sold as electrics.

Here is a selection of images of the model (OO-18E):

And here's that photo in its corrected aspect ratio:

Here's a picture of that Martin 00-18E from late 1963 or early 1964. It's a page frpm the April 1964 edition of "Beat Monthly".

As a matter of interest, here's an excellent photo (from the July 1964 edition of EMI's "Record Mail") of Cliff with Bruce's OO-18E:

Makes a change from Bruce using Cliff’s guitars? (J200 of course!)
