Hanks initialled strat

Postby keithmantle » Tue Jan 19, 2010 6:36 pm

Hi All, Have just bought an original EP, Shadows to the Fore 1961, on the cover it shows Hank has had the letters HBM (1"high approx) stuck on the body above the last fret, I also have a copy of The Sadows by themselves priced 3s-6p and always thought it was the same photo, but they are slightly different(obviously from the same roll of film) the guitar looks like the original 1959 36**** . I can't ever remember HBM on his guitars

Each of the Shadows guitars had their initials on the top horn at one point in time, Jet's sunburst P Bass, Bruce's Jazzmaster and Hank's 34346 Strat. They were gold 'stick on' letters that were available from Woolworths at the time - I remember because we bought some the same. How sad is that?

Couldn't afford the Strat to go with them though, not until 1964 anyway. :|

Yep... I had the letters too, but never got the Strat in the '60s. Been compensating ever since (what a great excuse!)

Got some on my Jap HBM Strat now. They are slide-on fancy gold initials from 'Partners' stationary stores. No adhesives involved either, & they can be pealed straight off again, if needed. You just have to clean the area on which to stick them with a damp cloth impregnated with a little bit of water & washing up liquid, to remove any grease/oil/sweat from the surface, & then dry it thoroughly.

Tony.

Dave,

It's only sad if you had HBM on it.

As for sticking the letters on I told Keith last night, to make sure
they stay in place a couple of small panel pins would be a good idea! :o
