Shads Live in Japan - 1967

Postby drakula63 » Fri Nov 01, 2019 6:23 pm

Has anyone/everyone seen this before? I may have, but at the moment it's slipped my mind. It sounds intriguing and probably worth the money if genuine and in good condition...

A one-sided disc but "both sides may be enjoyed enormously"? I don't think I'd be parting with £650 for it!

Some of us could crowd-fund this, at (say) £10 or £20 each.

It can be cleaned up digitally and distributed to contributors on CD-R.

I'm sure it's been discussed here already... but I find it incredible that EMI went to the trouble and expense of recording a live concert in 1967 and then didn't release it. Why?!!! I'll assume that in addition to the six tracks on this acetate, the rest of the concert also exists in a similar format?

To be honest, if I had the money, I would have happily paid £600+ for the original acetate. When you think about what it is, it's probably easily worth that.

I would hope that the whole concert (if recorded) will find its way out one day.

I really would like to see this released. Apart from "Foot Tapper" and "Shadoogie", the other tracks are some of the lesser known ones by the group, but great tracks in my opinion. "Green Green Grass Of Home" is of course a unique track and I would very much like to hear this version of "Shadoogie", as I have never heard this track with John on bass.

If it is of good enough quality, which I am assuming that it must be, then I think it SHOULD be released. Next year would be a good time, since it's the 60th anniversary of Apache and the BBC FOUR Shadows documentary will be shown.

The Cliff and the Shads Kingston show was a recorded live album that never appeared at the time but did (40 years later!) so why not this?
