As next year brings the Apache 60th anniversary I think it would be more fitting for there to be a Shadows album rather than a Hank solo album!

Great idea, Gavin!

George Fenton's Theme From Bergerac would be good.

But instead of The Scorpions' Wind of Change, I suggest that Brian Bennett's Wind Of Change (recorded by Clodagh Rodgers for a Eurovision in the 1970s) would be a lot better (in my opinion).

As a matter of fact, I can think of another excellent Eurovision tune which had melody and harmonic interest in bucketfuls: Ding-A-Dong by the Dutch ensemble Teach-In. It was the winner in 1975 and (again, in my opinion) much better than the song which came second that year: Let Me Be The One. One thing you can say about the Dutch song is that it would make a really good instrumental.

Any more?

Agreed on Ding-A-Dong, Jim. If we get an opportunity like we recently had in Newcastle I’d be delighted to back you up on bass!

I'm sure he'll make another album as his last 4 studio albums have all went top 10, so they're still selling.

That would be great! I doubt it’ll happen though because they did that in 1997; those who were involved in the project say individual Shadows members would only agree to releasing some of what was available. Having heard a few unreleased examples, let’s just say I can see why!

I've read on here in the past that there is tracks in the vaults that are just about complete but remain unreleased and probably will stay that way. I know a of a few tracks that can't be released due to technical faults.
An archive release would be good, or even a small box set of live shows, including the Japan 1967 show and the 1964 (or 65?) Holland (or Belgium) concert, I think there's a few other 60's live sets in the vaults.
Also, 2 other points, any news on the possible follow up to the Shadows 1959-1966 Stereo releases boxset and, will we ever see a BBC sessions of pre 1965 material?

Quite agree that Ding-Ding-A-Dong would make a really good instrumental (and it's got Shadows connections! - sort of).

For a while it's been on my list of 'covers I might record if the ability to write new ones deserts me.' (This happens often.)

All I know is that the BBC and Warner Music are aware of what little material is still available, its status and its technical quality. Whether they will decide to do something with it I have no idea. Needless to say, they have been encouraged to look positively at it!

Hi some fantastic album suggestions here and thanks Steve will check out some covers on you tube
I know everyone's cover versions tastes and styles are different it must be hard for Hank and the Shads to please their fans some love covers some don'tI think classic 50s 60s and 70s tracks seem to suit Hanks/Shads style
Especially a melodic style with a great time I'm a big fan of original material also
It's great to have the odd rocking cover amongst Hanks classic ballad style
