Incredible as it may sound I was not familiar with the Rockin' with Curly Leads album...until now!
Having followed this thread with great interest I couldn't wait to hear it so I listened to sound clips on Amazon and then downloaded it and I'm so glad I did.
It's brilliant, and so different, but then I don't need to tell you that.

For me the best Shads album, without a single doubt, is the very first.

Some of their albums were then, and still are today, rubbish by comparison.

But some others are superb and these are, in no particular order, Rockin' with Curlies, Tasty, Specs Appeal and Guardian Angel. I also have a soft spot for Shades of Rock!

Does anyone know anything about the title Gracie? It's my favourite track on the album. To me, this track evokes images of a lady (young or possible old) called Gracie wandering down Abbey Road!

If my memory serves me correctly this was originally recorded as a solo single in Australia by John Farrar called "John & Mary" which was the "B" side to "With Ranine On My MInd"
I think this was before he joined the Strangers.

Wasn't Gracie the name of John Farrar's wife?

No.

Can you respond to my question about the source of your comment "i don't think the other Shads have a high regard for it now"?

I think that Mrs Farrar was called Pat Carroll and that she used to sing in a duet with Olivia Newton-John.
