Jet has four-page article in latest 'Guitar & Bass'

Postby RayL » Mon Jan 25, 2010 12:46 pm

The latest issue of Guitar & Bass magazine (dated March 2010) has a four page article on Jet. Headed 'The Diamonds Geezer' it includes a full page pic of Jet with a sunburst Precision and three pages of text and pictures. I'll leave others to pick up on the various little errors that have crept in but it's a good comprehensive article by Alan Clayson. Would that be the Alan Clayson that I saw leading Clayson and The Argonauts at the Boom Boom Club in Sutton a couple of months ago?

Same article as referred to in my earlier post. Ray has given mag its proper title! I especially like the pic of Jet: suitably miserable!

Ah, wasn't sure if this was the same magazine that you were referring to. His MBE is referred to in one of the little 'Do You Know' boxes so if the article was written last year, the magazine is on the ball enough to include the update.

Hi Ray,
Yes...Alan Clayson the prolific author is the very same guy from 'Clayson & the Argonauts'. A fascinating character. I was at Reading University with him during 1971 - 73. He went into teaching (by all accounts very idiosyncratic & certainly never a slave to convention!) until c. 1981 / 82 when he quit to pursue his music & literary careers. Always very enigmatic - but a genuine guy who does appreciate the huge contribution of the Shads & Jet to music history.

Bests....Rob ;)

Oh! I know now who he is. He´s the The Beatles Box (the biography) author. That book has been in my bedside table for years. BTW you´re mentioned in it Rob.

Cheers,
Pancho

Hi Ray
Missed the reference to the MBE in Did you know box. Well spotted! More observant than me.

As well as Jet's MBE, there is also a piece on the News page about the death of Mick Green on Jan 11th, so the magazine could not have been put to bed before the Tues 12th. If Ian got his copy on Sat 23rd, then it must have been posted Thurs 21st or Fri 22nd so it took just over a week to print, bind, pack and post the subscriber copies. The shop copies go to the wholesale distributors' warehouses, where they are presumably held back for the official 'release' date (which is still ahead of the cover date)
