Thanks, Alan, so it's Eastern Europe! I was just speculating on Ivo's query.

Hi Roy,

Stranger On The Shore and Do You Wanna Dance were recorded during the Shads concerts at the Paris Olympia from 28. August to 15. September, 1962 with Brian Locking in the line-up, the other tracks were recorded there on 11. or 12. December 1961 with Jet Harris.

Hope this helps.

Hi. I just want to point out a mistake in the sleeve notes for "Perfidia". This is listed as a BBC recording, it is NOT. It is in fact from the ATV/Granada TV show The Shadows Show, 31st. Aug. 1962. The BBC Saturday Club recording is the SHADOWS playing a rocking version of "Perfidia, Ventures style, dated 10/6/1961. (still unreleased and Not on this CD).
Hope this of help.

Dave.

Play about half of it but too tired to play the rest but I must say the sound quality is outstanding, considering how old the material is. The remastering team did an excellent job.
I noticed in my copy I had a 'sorry for the delay' note from Leo's Den. Thought that was nice.

This is from an ATV TV show. The arrangement of "Perfidia" is the one from their "Out Of The Shadows" album. I guess that the version which will be issued on the new CD, will be the one which was recorded for BBC radio in the same arrangement as The Ventures' version.

Unfortunately, as Dave Herbert has revealed, this is not the case. Pity, I was looking forward to hearing the uptempo BBC radio session recording.

What I noticed on the CD was that on the Paris tracks Hank's guitar seems very distant at times, i'm not sure if this is due to age of the tape or the way it was recorded but it seemed strange for the lead to be so far back.

It's probably due to the way it was recorded. The Shadows' amps were not miked and there was no multitrack recording at this time.

It isn't an official release in the sense of being released or sanctioned by Warner Music, if that's what you mean.

The track-listing immediately tells the reader that Dusty Records consider all of the contents to be out of copyright (ie, released before 1st January 1963) and therefore legitimately used on this compilation. Much of it has indeed already been released by labels specialising in non-copyright items of that period.

Thank you for your message. I meant official in the sense that it's a legitimate CD. It's good to finally see a legitimate compilation CD released with material which has been circulating on the bootleg market for years.

Does anyone else think Cerveza was possibly the inspiration for 36-24-36? They sound similar.
I enjoyed the Radio Luxemburg recordings as I haven't heard them before, wish there was more of them.
