Jet Harris - 1989

Pic and sound slightly out of sync. Looks like Jet's borrowed Hank's black Strat!

Wonder whatever became of Kevin Dean? Is he here...?

He has a Facebook page "Kevin Dean - Guitar Instrumentalist" and describes himself as: "an international guitar instrumentalist who performs in variety theatre & cabaret shows." so it appears he's still around and doing ok :)

Oh, and thanks for posting that link, hadn't seen it before, and it was good to see Jet in such fine fettle :)

Thanks. Looks like he's done well. Obviously still a Shads fan, judging from his page!

I enjoyed that - Kevin sounds like he might have a bit of a antipodean accent ? - or could it be Gloucester?. He has done well if all those guitars are his?

Nice to see Jet in fine form and enjoying himself - he was certainly a character, and a fine musician IMHO.

Kindest regards,
Christopher

PS I once asked a friend who plays a lot of bass, including double bass and six string bass and he could not really explain in words, some of the techniques he used.

I confide that some things are unique to the person playing IMHO?

It seems Kevin Dean has been something of a well-kept secret. Now we have a good idea of how Bo Winberg played Orange Blossom Special those years ago.

I have always thought that the Spotnicks' version of Orange Blossom Special was recorded, and then the tape was played at a faster speed when it was being transferred to a 45rpm disc.

A bit like how they got the voices for the Pinky and Perky puppets and other novelty recordings. Mind you Les Paul was pioneering multi-tape recordings in the 1940s - and it helped that he really could "play a guitar like a ringing a bell"!

Just watched one of the youtube clips that Steve Tebble notes in a previous post, and it seems to my eyes and ears, that Kevin Dean is playing the Spotnicks version of Orange Blossom Special, without any recording trickery (mind you, it does not take much to fool me!).

Perhaps he is just very talented - some people are!. I have been trying for 60 years and have got nowhere near that accuracy - however I think I do a fairly good version of Buddy's "I Guess it Doesn't Matter any More" - based on the version by Nokie Edwards.

I had better get my coat, as this is starting to wander well off topic!

PS Is it just me, or does not Kevin Dean look a bit like Joe Bonamassa? Perhaps Joe has cloned himself? I have always wondered at how very talented people seem to suddenly spring out of nowhere!
