I was going to post Marlene Dietrich as well - she also wrote the lyrics herself so she must have been a fan! The label credits Welch /Dietrich.

Ich Werde Dich Lieben was also a hit in Germany in 2007 for Nena, best known for the international hit '99 Luftballons' or '99 Red Balloons' asit was here. To my ears it has a more 60s sound, strangely enough it reminds me of another of my old 90s favourites, Sleeper

Muse of course have 60s instro pedigree, singer Matt Bellamy is the son of George Bellamy, rhythm guitarist in the Tornados.

I thought Apache was a bit lame compared with Popcorn.
However Man of Mystery was great and bettered the original in that there were no bass mistakes at the end!

Opening up to Shadows originals by other writers - Technically a Shadows cover, (in the sense of a contempraneous release) as it was first released on Specs Appeal, but writer Gary Benson stole any chances of a hit by releasing his own single which made the top 20 in September 1975. So not actually strange or unexpected. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h8MztL8HnCA

But Jamaican dancehall megastar Barrington Levy's 1998 version would be in the context of a Shadows association

Man of Mystery by British space rock/prog rock titans Muse - OK, so not written by the Shadows, but neither was Apache and it's obviously their tune :)

James
I guess Matt Bellamy grew up with this music as I believe his father George played guitar in The Tornados

Jay-Z 'Pray' sampling 'New Earth' from the Hank Marvin Guitar Syndicate https://youtu.be/OFS_RKtOqY4 (listen at risk of your own IQ).

The original 'New Earth' - https://youtu.be/_CspK1v0G2E

ignoring the thread title completely, here is the only version I know of of the unreleased Shadows track 'It's Too Late', a non-charting 1979 single by The Searchers, which might be of interest, would still like to hearthe Shadows version though but still interesting to know how it goes.
