The Shadows, their music, their members and Shadows-related activity by former members of this community

Site changes from 9 May 2024

Postby Iain Purdon » 05 May 2024, 08:53

We are nearly ready to convert ShadowMusic to a read-only, public archive.

Membership will not be needed and will go. That means that anything you have posted to the site will remain here indefinitely for all to see. If there’s anything of yours that you would rather not have living on into the new era, I invite you to take the opportunity to delete/edit it without delay.

The private messaging facility will also go so, if there are people you’d like to stay in touch with, please use PM while you still can to contact them and share alternative contact details. A reminder, please do not use the message boards for this.

The Marketplace, Collectors’ Corner and Club Announcement boards will go.

Thanks for notice of these changes, Iain.

I shall shortly make an announcement about the Facebook version (though I am sure it will be a pale imitation of the ShadowMusic site).

Further to Iain's message, the site will change from some time on Thursday 9th May as follows:

You will no longer be able to register to the site.
You will no longer be able to post new messages or reply to existing ones.
Private messaging will be disabled.
Support will no longer be available.

Existing messages will not be affected and you will still be able to search for topics and information.

Thanks,

Bob.

Hi Bob,

Thank you for all the work you have done!

I have been trying to remove "Real Name" prior to the switch by following the information in FAQ's, but it doesn't seem to work?

I know that if you are logged in both Admin and I can still see this, but it still seems to be there if logged out, can you help please?

Best regards

Gary

Have you tried User Control Panel / Profile?

It should work.

Hi Bob,

Yes, I followed the instructions in FAQ''s but it still doesn't seem to work?

Just to be sure I logged out again and sure enough it's still there?

Regards

Jim, best to post the link to your Facebook page soonest, so the numbers can log on.

Again, my many thanks to the administrators for this site. It has been a source of much guidance and enjoyment.

Andy.

Posting a link to a Facebook group doesn't always work.

So... for those with a Facebook account (important! :-)), navigate to the group called:

ShadowMusic Community

It is circa 14:30 BST on Monday 6th May as I write this. Please locate the FB group as soon as you can, and seek membership. But please don't start posting material or content until after mid-day on Wednesday 8th May (that's also British Summer Time).

I still need to appoint a few co-administrators and we need to agree posting standards, etc.

Sorry, Jim, Zuckerberg is on my 'no thanks' list, so no facebook for me.

Obviously Facebook is not for everyone, Ray. There may be other ways for Shadows enthusiasts to gather online. I don’t know. But if there are, do let us all know.

Cheers - Iain
