Pop go the sixties

Postby Fenderman » 04 Jun 2010, 22:05

A programme origanlly broabcast in 1969 called 'Pop go the sixties' has started on sky channel Yesterday, it mentioned that the Shadows will be on it.
I've never seen the show so no idea what song they'll be doing. It'll have many other sixties such as the who, sandy shaw, the kinks and cliff.

Any idea what time and day it will be shown?

By the way, you can get the "Yesterday" channel on Freeview (terrestrial digital television) as well as on Sky.

I think it will be the mimed performance of the 31st of December 1969, New Year's Eve on which The Shadows play "Apache" and later on back Cliff on "Bachelor Boy", after Cliff (solo) does "Congratulations". The line-up for the evening was Hank, Bruce (yes, back for just one appearance), John Rostill and Tony Meehan standing in for Brian.

I wondered who the guy on drums was! Where was Brian? Was he simply unavailable for the show? And yes, it was mimed.

Hi Sam,

If you didn't manage to catch the programme . . . no problem, I recorded it!

Just let me know (I will need your address (by PM)).

There was some discussion about this programme a while back, and someone (Stuart D?) said that Tony was asked to do it rather than Brian - presumambly because it was a review of the 60s?

If that was the case, why didn't they ask Jet to do it instead of John? No offence to John of course.

Hi Probably because Jet was not 'as together' in 1969 as he is now. He was never discussed when I was talking to the band about it in December 1969 at Stockton Fiesta Club.
