F.B.I. and Wonderful Land

Postby Keith Bateman » Thu Jul 08, 2010 12:24 pm

I've not seen these two clips before from 1961 and 1962. F.B.I. is live on the Cliff tv show with Hank playing a different version of the middle solo and Bruce missing one of his moves when the guitars are pointed up for the second time. Wonderful Land is mimed but shows the line up shortly after Brian joined. Hank looks unusually serious throughout!

These shows are now circulating freely on 'collectors' dvd, pity the respective copyright owners couldn't put them out as 'official' dvd, which would mean better quality.

Did you notice Hank's p/u selection on FBI? ;)

Bridge pick up.
What is the 'accepted' pick-up for FBI ?

Looks like the neck for the first section then the bridge for later through my monitor.

He does change p/u selection during the tune (which you can see him do), there are others where he does the same, maybe that's why we can't get that sound. :D

This seems like quite an early version of FBI.
Is that a mistake in the middle eighth or just a different version?
And what guitar is Bruce using, dosen't look like his usual strat.

Hank's using the middle pickup for the first part, then bridge for the third verse and on.
Bruce is using his sunburst Jazzmaster. It's the original all Fender line up before they all had matching red guitars.

what a great clip of wonderful land (although mimed) and with brian and jet too - it's simply amazing what youtube throws up!
bruce's choice of chords always amazes me - playing the middle eight up the neck. he is a master - very underrated.

I believe that was Jet's last TV appearance (April '62) prior to leaving the group, it was a Dutch program, The Rudi Carroll Show (hope I've spelt that correctly). ;)
