JOHN ROSTILL 1942 - 1973

Just to say that it was 37 years ago today when the tragic death of John Rostill was announced. John was found by Bruce in his (John's) private recording studio at his home. Apparently electrocuted - John was slumped in a chair, bass guitar in hand with his fingers still on the strings. A horribly premature end for a very talented musician and a terrible loss to his immediate family and friends. But....John's music lives on and he is still remembered by the Shadows and their many fans worldwide. RIP John.

I remember it well, someone told us when we returned to our hotel (The Stag at Wishaw) after our gig whilst touring Scotland. He was a great musician and songwriter, never to be forgotten. RIP John.

I remember hearing the news of John's death on the radio that evening, such a sad loss. RIP John.

It's still a bit of mystery wht happened to him, how did he get eletrocuted? Was it the bass guitar? I remember reading in 'Funny old world' he was a bit of a whizz with electronics but used to take short cuts sometimes.

I heard of John for the first time when I was a little boy. By his sound in several records of the Shas he gave me the very good idea for learning bass guitar.
Today I play on a Burns Marvin Rostill bass ...N° 0075. I'm pround about.
I'm Matilda's father and so proud as my daughter was in touch with John 's son Paul as he congratulated her CD recorded at Honey hill studios with Warren Bennett and friends several years ago...

I think we never forget John's influance for the bassmen.
