ECHO BOX

So, who is going to treat themselves to a TVS3 for Christmas?
check out the sound of this unit in the video clips area, under Living Doll.

Do we expect to see a lot of Zoom rfx2000 and Alesis quads for sale, bet your life we will.

Ian :)

Hi,

Well I won't be one of them, I'm quite happy with my EFTP Q20.

The echo sounds on the concert sounded no better or worse than previous concerts to me.

I'd rather spend less on an ESE Echomatic or on an original Meazzi.

Somehow I don't see a large amount of quads etc. coming on the market after Christmas!

I agree with Amanda,
I have a Q20 I don't feel the TVS is any better, but the ESE is as good as you wil get IMHO.

As I understand it the ESE Echomatic is being changed somewhat due to difficulty with a crucial part but I do know that one of the last current 6 head ones was being assembled for Jeff Beck. But they should be more or less the same price I believe.
I think the price of the TVS3 will always be the obstacle.

Well I agree with you all, It does not sound a great deal different and it is way too expensive. But it is inevitable that someone will buy one, wax lyrical about it and it will become the thing to have if you want "That" sound.

I wonder what version of "That" sound will be classed as the (One). Just musing.

I agree with Tony, the price of the TVS3 is far too prohibitive, but that said, I'd love to try it and see how close it really is to the sound of a Meazzi. My only problem with the ESE is that they've tried to "improve" the design of the Meazzi, meaning you lose the tape movement that gives the wow and flutter that is so important to the early sounds.

Ian, any version of "That Sound" can be obtained with the same gear, the difference is in tone settings and the way you play. IMO.

Grrr, see what you've done? I'm taking the bait again! ;)

Hi,

I would imagine that one of the hard parts to get may be the push button switch unit,
another could be the EM84 "Magic Eye" level indicator.

I wish they did a kit of mechanical parts for the ESE! :(

Hi Amanda,
About 5 weeks ago I had two conversations with ESE the first with Eric Snowball and then a nice chap called Guy who I think assembles the machines. I've tried to remember what was actually said but the two phone calls were sightly inconsistant with each other but thinking about it; it was said that a "coil" of some description was the big issue so they were trying to find a suitable replacement but were also taking the opportunity to re-design the current version at the same time, agreeing with Justin any kind of change to an item of this quality sometimes may result in compromise which is'nt always an improvement.

Ah, Progress.
So a lot of time, energy, money and technology goes into trying to emulate something that was once made without the technology..

interesting: :?

Hi Tony,

I would imagine the part they are having trouble sourcing in that case
is the oscillator coil for the erase / bias oscillator.
