And your cheapo lead guitar is good enough for me.

Now how do we sell all that expensive gear before everyone hears this and the bottom falls out of the market?

I don't think enough credit is given to the rhythm guitar part on The Shadows recordings, most people just hear a melody, but it's when you actually listen to what's going on and pick out all the instruments, that you appreciate the talent that these young guys had. It isn't just about playing the notes and the part that is difficult to teach new guitarists is the 'feel'. As for the cheapo guitar, I know 100% it feels like not to be able to afford the top model, even though I do now have several, but these budget guitars can do a great job if you set them up right and as long as they hold tuning. :)

Definitely works better in mono. What a great sound. Not only have you got Hank and Bruce sounds going on, the Jet bit is pretty mean and drums blend in well.

I have never been a specific Hank fan but always a Shadows fan. Group greater than the sum of its parts, as I think Bruce said. This sounds like the Shadows.

Congratulations Dave!

Definitely improved on Mono mix Dave. I would give a Colourbox mix a try at least on lead and rhythm parts whist you are having a look into this.

The Colourbox is on the Strat.

It all sounds pretty much perfect to me Dave. You hit the nail on the head when you said that budget guitars can sound fine when properly set up.

Also, as I'm always saying, the most important part of any guitar is the nut at the back.

Thanks for your comments thus far. Here's the re-recorded lead & rhythm this time using a SX Stratocaster and the Tokai J-200.
The Strat is going through my JHS Colourbox and Zoom MS100 BT effects for echo, into the Fender Deluxe ToneMaster and out of the DI into the computer.
This was done Saturday afternoon, a couple of days after the others you've heard and there's only minimal difference is tone.
There's nothing here that most of our members shouldn't be able to replicate, which is the purpose of the demonstration. I spent next to no time setting this up and they are all 'one takes' as I don't have time for fannying around all day

I can't see how you could get a much better sound than that. Excellent. Now if only I could play it properly.

Thanks Ken for that lovely reassuring comment, it means a lot as it helps me to know that my ears are actually working OK. :)

I didn't realise I had hearing problems until I was admitted to hospital and later tested. It was causing me to make poor judgements with my sound and mixing so I'm over the moon that it has been corrected, albeit with technology. I suffered three fold, firstly though being in the group in loud environments for years, then reinforced by old age which is a natural occurrence, then with the chemo therapy which really found me out. Luckily I have found good hearing aids and have them correctly tuned to m lifestyle, allowing me the pleasure of our music again. What happened in my case was that the 'upper mid & top end' receptors were damaged in my ears, causing me to over compensate with my guitar sound and mixing of music in general. Anyone listening to my recent work will notice that I do actually recognise those magic tones on the guitars that delighted us when e were starting out and I'm now achieving the results that I always worked for. I't's always fun playing and recording our music and especially these days the distraction is more than welcome. ;)
