Lonesome Moonride

Just thought I'd share this with the group as it took me an age to learn :) .

I'm still very much a beginner at this guitar lark, and thought that this tune sounded a simple one to learn. It probably is if you know what you're doing, but for me, it was a nightmare as every verse seems to be played slightly differently, using a different part of the fretboard. I've never had to learn so many different notes in one tune  . Got there in the end though.

Backing track is by Roger Paulsson, and I recorded it using my Burns Marvin '64 into my Surface Pro 6 via a Zoom G3x with Halls Echoes and an AC Tone pedal.

For a beginner you play exceptionally well Cliff. I'm guessing here but it doesn't sound like you used a TAB. Am I right?

That's very kind of you to say :) .

I'm afraid I did use a tab - it came with the backing track CD "Instrumental Backtrax Vol. 6". I suspect that's part of the reason I found it so difficult to learn, as I don't fully understand what I'm playing if that makes sense. I really need to put a lot more effort into learning and understanding scales etc, but playing and recording is more fun!

Once the current lockdown is over, I hope to find a good guitar tutor who can provide the incentive and discipline I require to move forward. At the moment, I'm learning tunes when I should really be learning the instrument.

A lot of TAB players follow the numbers and not the tune, so the playing sounds clumsy. At least you managed to keep it smooth and fluent. I know what you mean about learning the instrument, but don't wait for a tutor, have a look on You Tube, you'll find lots of good instructional videos covering all aspects of playing. Then when a tutor comes along you'll be better equipped.
