Thanks lads it means a lot to know that others can identify that we're in the ball park here. I had a listen to the way The Shadows tackled it on Crackerjack and watched their hands and the positions on the fretboard. It's odd that I never heard FBI played quite like that when I finally saw them live at Sheffield City Hall in 1963, but one obvious factor has to be that it was two years later and Jet & Tony had gone.
As for the lead guitar, it's most certainly the use of heavy strings on the Strat that I used for the verses, my Sunburst with maple neck fitted with 11//54 with the wound third.
I played the middle solo on the same settings but on my rosewood fingerboard , humble SX Strat fitted with Mojo Vintage Pickups and 9/46 strings.
The TVS3 provided the echo through my Fender DeLuxe Reverb Tone Master which in order to achieve the AC30 tone had no bass & treble added & was DI into the Logic system on my Mac. I used the Neve (Abbey Road) Desk software with a little EQ but nothing major, along with a tiny bit of Abbey Road reverb.
I'm spending my lockdown re-visiting my recording methods with fresh ears having been given my hearing back by the NHS.
