My grandfathers Clock

Postby burnsernst » 12 Apr 2010, 19:09

Hi Friends,

here is another example for a backing track that I made from the original Shadows vinyl record with my audacity program.

May be there are better professional backings for this tune but I prefer to be accompanied by Bruce , Brian & cie. even the sound may be not so good.

I have some other tunes done this way on my two youtube sites "burnsernst" and "shadowsrarities".

Feel free to have a look there.

Kind regards Ernst

Hi Ernst,

I enjoyed listening to your rendition of that Shadows number. It sounded wonderful with your Burns and the BT sounded OK too. I'm surprised that you managed to remove the lead track somehow using Audacity. I have tried that too with Audacity and a vst plug-in but it didn't work too well for me. How did you manage to do that so well? I would be interested to know about that when you have a moment.

Regards,
Len

Hi Len,

I try to explain how I do it. I hope my English is good enough.

I have to say first, this does not work with every track. It depends how it was originally recorded.

Once you have imported the original (in my case the vinyl record track) to audacity you can find out by dividing the stereo track with the small black arrow left side which makes it two separate tracks. By muting the one or the other track you will hear whether there is the lead only on one track. Than it´s ok.

You can now delete the lead track and then “duplicate” the rhythm/drum track.
Then click the black arrow again and put the two tracks together to a ”stereo track”.
Don’t forget to make one track “left” and one track “ right.

You may still hear a little bit of the lead but that’s not bad when you play to it.
If you play rather correctly you won´t hear the quiet original lead.

May be that sounds a little difficult but it isn`t. When I could do it- I´m sure you can do- as I`m not very experienced in computers.

You may find also “Audacity” tutorials on youtube where they explain another option of cutting off the lead by “inverting”. But I never tried this and it seems not to work so good.

If you only want to have the BT for my grandfathers Clock I can send you the mp3 if you give me your mail address.

You may also contact me on hankbruce@hotmail.de

I hope I could help you a little and you succeed in making your own BT.

Thanks for the kind comment to my video.

Kind regards Ernst
