Burns Marvin 2004/64 tryout

Hi every one!
Got myself a new guitar and I've tried it out on Pierre's tune "Farewell My Lovely" (BT by Vignocchi).
My French friends told me they liked it (despite half a dozen slips in it!), so I hope it will please you too!

Very pretty... but sounds very similar to a Strat... what amplifier and settings are you using for your Burns?

Thanks for your appreciation. The recording was done directly through my Q+ into "Audacity": nothing else... I must say that my Strat does not sound the same as this guitar: more "twangy", so to say...

Hi Joel,

Your rendition of 'Farewell to My Lovely' is very good and played very much in The Shadows style. I like the sound of the Burns Marvin on that one though I don't own either a Strat or Burns myself. I am struck by the similarity of sound to the original which I suppose, was probably performed on a Strat. I enjoyed listening to your rendition. Thanks for sharing it.

I also thought that was an excellent version of this tune and very Burns-like to my ears as my Burns Marvin has a similar full mellowness that's subtly different from my strat.
As an observation I thought I detected slight distortion in places as though your recording level was maybe just a tad too high and overloading slightly, but that aside I enjoyed it.

Len, I must say you're entirely right as regards the Strat being used for the original tune. I may be wrong but I think I remember watching pierre Téodori playing a red 80s Strat on this tune: his original version is to my mind better than "our" Shads', this being an exception! The funny thing about this tune is that before getting my new Burns, I used to play this tune on my old 64 Strat, then on a "60s player reissue", and I used to have quite an ordeal trying to emulate the sound on the Strat! (the original notes are long and sustained, and that was a little difficult to achieve with my gear)
Martyn, you've expressed exactly what I feel about the "Burnsy" sound: mellowness is the right word, and the difference is actually subtle , considering the Strat... well, "this" or "that" sound gives us all so much pleasure that it would be a pity not to share it, wouldn't it?
