Hi BurnsErnst, I recognise you from youtube, your a brilliant player, hows the club getting on? Anyway they were very nice I enjoyed them, thank-you for them. :) Also The Lute-Number, In the Northern Ireland club that is one of our tunes we play every month. So that one is quite common to me, but the others not so common , thank-you again

Hi Ernst,

Those were very good recordings of some of the early Shadows numbers that are not heard very often. What backing tracks did you use? I could be way off the track here but it sounded to me as though the 'Magical Mrs. Clamps' at least, may have been recorded using the original Shadows for backing but if so, how did you manage to remove Hank?

Thanks for posting those most enjoyable renditions. You seemed to enjoy playing them and I for one, enjoyed listening. :D :D :D

Cheers,
Len

Hi Len,

thanks for your kind comment. I explained already some time ago how I do it. Just have a short search for it.
in short- depends on how the vinyl record is done (lead and backing seperate tracks.-- then I use audacity program to split the tracks and make just the backing another track for me.

If you cannot find it here in the forum just contact me on my hotmail adress. Its easier to write there. hankbruce@hotmail.de

Hi Ernst,

Thanks for your reply Ernst.

I have tried the method you suggested by splitting tracks using Audacity but have had very mixed results with this. Most of the time, where the lead track is dead in the centre, a good bit of it can be removed. However, it seems to make the rest of the backing parts seem distorted or sound out of phase. Since the principle of phase reversal is involved with the method, I guess this is not entirely surprising. It can also upset the balance of other parts that are not exactly centred it would seem. It is also difficult to remove the lead track entirely as there always seems to be some some trace of it left.

Occasionally, the lead track is on one side only. You can then sometimes remove one track altogether, copy it to the other side and thereafter create a stereo image using plug-ins or record other parts onto one side or the other to spread the stereo image.

As I said, my efforts were unsuccessful and I was forced to abandon this after a time. However, you seemed to manage it quite well. Maybe you are doing something that I'm not. I also record direct at the moment and perhaps this makes it difficult to mask any noise.

Thanks again,
Len

Hi Len,

I don`t think you did anything wrong. As I mentioned before it only works on special tunes and how they are originally recorded. I also cannot make an own BT from any tune. I only managed to do 5 or 6 right now with different sucess. Some are rather good, some are noisy (e.g. Jigsaw ).
If you want contact me on my e-mail adress hankbruce@hotmail.de and I can send you a list of what I`ve got. But I have to say I was always looking for very rare tunes .

see you, Ernst
