Paul,

I did notice that your comparison was very much overlooked, last night before my last post I did a further edit to your comparisons, I edited ONLY the echo's ie. Shadows yours, four times and without gaps so a true comparison could be heard, the difference to my ears was maybe 2% which is uncanny, I have to add that that difference was not the actual echo's themselves but the slightly different harmonics of Gary's guitar sound in pitch etc. Unless you have the ears for such things, the both files are undistinguishable. My new edit sounded so good that I knew you wouldn't mind me posting it but I decided not to because it would be a waist (EDIT) Wow! That should be waste!!!...( So sorry for that mistake Eric) time as some members wouldn't know what to listen for.

Please post, Phil. I probably won't know what to look for, but it will be educational to try. Many thanks.

Andy

Would be good to hear a comparison with the eTap too.

What's a 'waist of time' ?
Is it something to do with Dr Who's figure ?

As Phil mentioned, the bandpass filter was used before the echo chamber and certainly contributed to the Abbey Road reverb sound. We similarly limit the bandwidth of the reverb. I don't understand your comment about no Bruce, he is in the right channel at the same level as the original. Maybe your right speaker is not working?

Regards,

Paul.

Hi Paul, YES, the right speaker was somehow out of action. Having looked at it and got it back on line I now have the ''full line-up'', Bruce 'n all. TA!

Trying to sort out the different opinions on the two echos mentioned must be a headache for most punters on this site. Remember though, that we all have different ways of playing a guitar. I have used set-ups at Shads clubs and indeed, other people's pre-amp boxes and peddles, and in a lot of cases they won't exactly suit me, but suit the people who originated them. They will get better results than me with THERE settings whereas I would have to adjust them, sometimes considerably, to achieve the same results. Everybody's kit is personal; settings, volumes, amps, EQ's etc., etc., but one of the most forgotten things is the intonation of the guitar, string height, guage and how we hit those strings. Gary Taylor is one of those guys who ALSO has ''THAT TOUCH'' - you can't buy that in a box. We all enjoy trying to get that sound and we have one box that will emulate ''that sound'' under the right settings/conditions, the rest is up to us. The E-tap seems to have great potential, but it depends on who's driving it.

Just a personal view.

The nearest thing I've got is a Vox Long-Tom - nothing emulates the ''ripple'' quite as good.

Cheers,
John

Hi John,

Glad you got your speakers sorted out.

There is no doubt that the player is a critical part of the equation as is guitar setup etc. The point I am trying to make here is that the critical test of an echo unit's capability as far as Shadows music goes is can it reproduce the early sounds of the Shadows and, if such claims are made, can they be backed up with direct evidence. The eTap is a great piece of kit, but so far there is no evidence to support such claims for it whereas there is a web site full of it for the TVS3 (some of it played by myself). There are also a number of postings by other TVS3 users using a variety of other equipment having the same success and so Gary, great guitarist that he is, is not the only one achieving that sound with a TVS3. Sure the eTap sounds nice and will make many players very happy, but let's at least reserve judgement on how it compares with the original Meazzis or TVS3 until such evidence is available.

By the way I agree with your comments on the Long Tom, it is a great piece of kit and can certainly get that early sound, just as properly prepared tape Meazzis can, though in both cases the echo timings need adjustment.

Paul.
