HANK PLAYS OZZY with Sliders (Dreamer)

Postby pjr » 22 Jan 2013, 21:44

I purchased some Sliders pickups a few months ago and finally got round to recording something with them.
It's not meant to be "that sound" just the sound through my own gear which for this song is:
'68 Strat (original not reissue) into Mesa Boogie LoneStar classic (using preamp only) into Quad GT then straight into computer.
No EQ other than the amp settings.
The first 1m 25s is played in open position using bridge pickup then playing around 5th position still on bridge.
Distorted part still on bridge before moving to neck pickup for final section at about 3m 15s.

Are they worth the money? I don't really know. I like the sound of my Seymour Duncan alnico pro II's just as much to be honest.
Feel free to rip it to bits............. ;)

(One caveat though, my hearing is knackered  )

Really nice one Pete, I always like the mixture of clean and distorted, just gives it that extra.

Hi Pete
As John and Tony say nice easy to listen to sound and playing.
Can I ask if you used the capacitor provided by Sliders or have you left the original 68 in your guitar.
Regards Geoff.

Cheers all.

I have 2 seperate tone controls on the guitar Geoff, both working on all 3 pickups.
I use the Sliders cap. on one control and the other utilizes a 39nf cap and 220k resistor in parallel
and then in series with a 1.5 henry inductor.
Both controls are of the "no load" variety and neither of them were in use for the recording of the file.

Cheers,
Pete

Hi again Peter
I take it the Sliders cap is on, what I would call, the neck 250K control pot. Now changed to a 220K no load pot? I will have to think about the rest of it Peter as I am not, as you can guess,an under the bonnet man if it's not wire'd as per vintage and re-issue Strats.
Regards Geoff.

No, Geoff.
The Slider cap is on what would normally be the middle pickup tone control but wired in such a way that it works on ANY of the pickups (including bridge)
or combination thereof.
What is normally the neck pickup tone control is also configured to work on any pickup or combination of pickups.
However, instead of a single capacitor on this control, there is a 39nf cap in parallel with a 220k resistor. This then goes through a 1.5 henry choke
to ground (-ve).
The pots being "no load" are completely out of the circuit when turned fully clockwise and therefore don't "load" the circuit.
HTH,

Pete
