Hi Guys

While this has been on the TVS Juke Box (http://www.tvsspecialtyproducts.com/page7.htm) for a while, we are posting it now following the recent interest in the tune. There are a number of different versions of FBI on vinyl and CD, and this one was matched to that on the CD: The Shadows, The Early Years (Expanded Edition).

There is some obvious reverb still remaining in the backing from the original on the two low note sections that we couldn’t completely remove. This was probably added by Abbey Road to the original to give those sections some more “gravitas”. While this no doubt enhances the comparison with the original in those sections, the core sound of the lead is still very apparent. Furthermore, for the majority of the track any residual in the backing of Hank’s lead and associated reverb was at a very low level.

The only equalisation used on the lead during the mixing was a gentle cut above about 2.5kHz, though this could probably have been achieved with more judicious use of the Top Cut control on the amplifier. There was no additional compression and just a small amount of reverb.

The equipment used was: 2004 American Strat, CS54 PU’s, TVS3, AC15 clone, SM57 mic.
