GONZALES using Fender USA Deluxe Strat

Postby dave robinson » 02 Sep 2016, 14:42

For those interested whether or not the new Fender USA Deluxe Strats' can do the business on Shadows tunes we recorded this live on Wednesday using that guitar, as well as the H&C echo through the Mesa Boogie DC-50, no added pedals such as Gemini III or Ariab, I didn't have them handy. :)

Thanks Kurt - These two tracks were recorded via the stereo microphones built in to the Boss BR-600, which I placed on a stool centrally at a roughly equal distance from all the amps and drums. The drum kit isn't a loud kit as it's an 'Arbiter Flats' jobbie, for those not familiar with those there are no cylindrical parts to the kit, just skins on frames. That means that there is no projection as there would be from a normal kit, which is ideal for this purpose. Delighted with the result.:)

Both tunes excellent Dave considering the basic recording components.

Wow, Dave! Just listened to both tunes. Pure pleasure from beginning to end, and the idea that you did them in one take tells me that you must be an exceptional live performer. I especially enjoyed the little bit of extra body english you gave the whammy bar near the very end of Man of Mystery.

Separately, I've enjoyed your postings in the etap2 forum, as well as your gear reviews and comments on echoes. I've learned an inestimable amount by reading your postings and going back and re-listening to Shads recordings in light of your comments. Thanks for your presence here.

All the best,
--Paul

Thank you very much for those nice comments, it tells me I'm actually recovering from my illness - two years ago I couldn't play due to the chemo. :)

Sounds great Robbo ... further proof that you don't need to be all anorakky about using identical gear ... a lot of it's in the fingers!

Thanks Steve and of course you're right in what you said, it's understanding what's going on with the guitar, amp and echo that get's you there. True, some get it closer than others, but in my case with these recordings I set the Boogie somewhere in the 'ball park' as Hank calls it. There is an AC-30/4 next to the Boogie in my studio, but we had the rhythm guitar using that on this particular rehearsal. The days of searching for the Holy Grail are long over for me, I just enjoy playing now and am grateful that I can.:)
