For your information; the strings are Fender flatwounds 12-52. They sound great on other tunes too...

Excellent sound!

I notice two interesting details in particular
1) flatwounds!!!
2) with the graphic EQ settting seen on the video the tone shaping is in essence just a steep low end cut and a less steep high end roll off. The remaining bandpass is flat with a healty boost (pushing the amp input). Doesn't necessarily take a 10 band EQ to do that ;)

I did a couple of patches on the Zoom G3X and replicated that quite easily, which means everyone else should be able to do something similar. It's just a case of rolling off bass and treble and boosting the mids at the right spot. As roundwounds were used on the original recording, I wouldn't go rushing out for a set of flatwounds, I have tried several gauges and brands and although results can be achieved, it isn't what it was so it's a costly and futile exercise. The right EQ is the key.

This was a fantastic version of one of our beloved songs. Your treatment should not be influenced by others who may well have a great deal more experience in hardware - go with what you feel is right - every time,

Absolutely fab version.

Dave, why do you have to make out that you can do it better than the original poster? Are you so insecure?

Get a grip mate, there are better guitarists than you, so why no accept the fact and get on with it like the rest of us.

So what's your problem ? I was merely stating a fact. The playing isn't the issue, it's the sound we're discussing and I was replying to the post before my own. I'm quite aware of my playing capabilities and that I have lost most of it due to my illness and I think it was quite unnecessary to get personal under those circumstances.

And you seem to be incapable of admitting the fact that someone has created a great sound without trying to make out that you can do better.

I have no knowledge of your illness and, to be honest, to use it as mitigation for some of your comments is not worthy of you.

Please be more respectful of other people's efforts and try not to make out that they are inferior to you all the time.

I now expect this thread to be deleted because I have dared to contradict you.

That is a great sound I think its a combination of all the things

My friend Ernie Lamprell has been experimenting with the eq same as Ronnie gustafsson and that does really help but the pedals they use are hard to source. I saw Colin pryce jones last week at our guitar club and his sound was spot on on every track, we spoke about his setup and he believes the key part is the flatwounds he uses by pyramid, they sound very different to the daddariios I had on my strat.

Overall its setting it all up right and of course playing it well, you can have all the gear but if you don't know how to get the best out of it you will never sound right

That's why I have now given up, my meazzi and my PRs make a great duo, nothing hankish at all

CONSIDERING I LOST THE USE OF MY HANDS FOR OVER TWELVE MONTHS DUE TO THE EFFECTS OF CHEMOTHERAPY, I RECKON I HAVE MORE THAN A GOOD CASE. THEY ARE CURRENTLY 50% AND I'M BACK GIGGING AGAIN.
