In this thread I explained what changes I made to the track to add more echo and "dirt." After your earlier comment I realized that you were right about the chord rake after the solo. It turned out that it was a segment of an earlier recording that had indeed been done with the bridge pickup. So I deleted it and replaced it with a new raked chord, using the middle pickup.
I wonder if you or anyone else hears in the original that the first raked D chord is not always played the same way. First Hank plays the D chord without the first high D note on the first string and later he plays the chord with that high D note. Then he does the opposite: he plays the chord with the high D note and then without. I did the same.
Anyway, it was really a surprise for me too when I tried the middle pickup and it worked right away. Perhaps there are other tunes that Hank played on pickups that are different than we think he used. For example, listening very closely and trying to match his sound in Find Me A Golden Street I have come to the conclusion that he must have used the bridge pickup, not the middle pickup, as we all believe he used -- but that is a different story.
Cheers,
Bojan
