Thoroughly enjoyed the sound file Phil. As usual a great early sound.
Any details on the Strat you've 'just put together' please?

Hi John,
Sure, the neck is a one piece birdseye from Jamerson in the states, body came from Rainbow products UK , 3 piece alder with thin nitro finish expertly applied by Mick Johnson of Reading , who also did the neck, the whole bridge is off an original 62 strat, pickups are Texas specials, strings are Newtone 12 - 52, for this with a wound third,

Phil,
Thanks for that prompt response. That's an interesting combination of parts - especially with the texas specials. I (incorrectly, it seems) presumed they'd give a very bright toppy sound. That's certainly not the case.
Have just received a vintage maple neck from Jamerson for a project I have planned. They certainly seem to do a quality job.
My strat will be a little more modest! I'll be using a MIM Classic 50's ( Fiesta Red) alder body with USA gold hardware and 57/62 pickups.
Keep those soundfiles coming.

Hi Gary and john,
The Texas specials can be toppy , its what they are in a way designed for, texas twang , but you can control this with the amp / guitar settings and the way you play them, i like them because they have a slightly more pronounced mid range, which with control of the top end can give a nice full warm sound.
I have found setting them on the low side helps, i think this really applies to most pickups, its all what you hear i guess and what you play them through,

Hi Phil,

Great sound and playing, as always. Having just listened to the original it makes me think that the first verse is played on the bridge p-u, the rest on the middle. I guess you were playing on the neck p-u?

Anyway, your version sounded splendid!
