Hi Phil,

Excellent work on that one. Overall, it was an excellent production. I liked the clarity of the video. It is very helpful to be able to see what equipment you are using and to watch your fingerwork. The sound quality was excellent too and the stereo in the BT came out really well I thought on my hi fi.

The Focus version of that is very familiar of course. I saw them play it live once in Sydney many years ago. I also have the Hank Marvin version of that piece. It is interesting to hear the PRS guitar. I have a Washburn Falcon that probably sounds similar only it has split coils that give a single pickup option. The tone on the guitar is quite different to the Strat that Hank probably uses. However, it does work well with the piece I think. I suppose that the humbucker pickups will inevitably make quite a difference. I've only ever heard the one (that I know of) played by Carlos Santana. Do you know if that is the model he uses? It does look very similar to me.

I enjoyed listening to your version. Thanks for posting it.

Regards,
Len

Hi Len,
Thanks for your comments. The video was recorded in HD which makes it clear to watch even in full screen.
The only downside to this is the files are very large (approx 700 meg for a 4.30 song) and editing becomes difficult if you have several clips to piece together,
even with a fast PC. So best to video it all in one take.
Also takes ages to upload to youtube.
I'm pretty sure the PRS is a similar model to Carlos Santana's - I used it as it has lighter strings fitted than my strat which makes the bending much easier on this song.
I've always liked Focus and Jan Akkerman is a teriffic guitarist so I was glad to have a go at one of theirs.

Cheers Phil

Wonderful, Phil!!
I like almost all of "Into The Light" and I guess apart from the title track, this is my next fave.
Excellent playing as always. The sound from the PRS is great and thanks too to IanMc for the brill BT.
Are the headphones so you can't hear Mrs M shouting "TURN IT DOWN" ! !

Your not far wrong about the headphones - I don't hear the tele and the wife doesn't hear me ! :o

Also thanks to Ian McCutcheon for this track and all the great backing tracks he has produced over the years :)

A super soundfile Phil and very well played. :)

I've never tried it but it certainly looks to be a tricky piece!

Hi Ernst
I've had a look and a listen and enjoyed it very much. I'm in the middle of learning it myself and i'm getting there! Did you you use a fuzz effect for the main melody? That's what i've been doing.

Thanks, Ernst, Roger and Mikey for your replies.
- I like your version too Ernst - I was in two minds whether to do it with distortion like Focus or clean like Hank.
Time I did another one I think.

Cheers Phil
