Hi Vic,

That was very good, especially since it is your first post. I often wonder too where all those years have gone. They seem to vanish quicker as you get older. At least that is the way it seems to me. I guess one message from these reflections could be to try to live without any regrets and yet strive to make the most of our remaining years.

You certainly have done well with this post and I liked the way you showed us a glimpse of the equipment you used to record. The video medium was used to great effect to tell your story. Well done. I enjoyed watching it.

Cheers,
Len

Vic

I cannot think of a better piece to depict a life story - excellent stuff!
I did not realise that the guitar player, (playing a bargain basement copy of a Les Paul Black Beauty!) in one of the photos is non other than Alan Gilligan - a mutual acquaintance and friend of both of us. Alan contacted me by email a couple of days ago - although I'd already viewed the video i did not recognise him
immediately. Alan used to work for the same Company as me until he retired a couple of years ago. Just goes to show it's a small world!

Best wishes

Tony

Hi Vic

Though I visit this site fairly regularly I rarely contribute.

However, I had to say how much I admired your playing on this highly tasteful piece. The phrasing and "feel" of the melody, as a good singer would deliver it, impressed me greatly.

What's more I honestly think your arrangement of the song is vastly superior to the Micheal Holliday original, with it's jaunty beat and whistle at the end of each line - though I guess it was par for the course in 1958. I can imagine an arrangement like yours being sung by someone like Karen Carpenter or Neil Sedaka in the more sophisticated 70s.

I also enjoyed the video. I wonder whether you and your wife have a special occasion coming up - perhaps a major anniversary? I think this video would bring the house down if shown to family and freiends at a party.

Again, well done

Graham

Hi Graham,
Thank you for your kind comments, I am really pleased that you enjoyed 'The Story of My Life'.
I do like to search out old songs and try them as an instrumental, this was just one of those songs that came into my head, It was after I had made the recording that I decided to look up the original Michael Holliday version on youtube.
I had remembered all the words of the song, and that the original was faster, I also remembered the whistling and the 'Bo Bom Bom's' in the song, what was all that whistling about on recordings back then.
Many Thanks
Vic.

Yep - its gets my vote too!
LOved the glued down hairstyle!! Oh how I remember when I had hair!!
WOnderful trip down your own Memory Lane and a super piece of composite ( do they call it "Rostrum work"?) too.
Excellent music too - poor Michael Holliday was taken too soon.
Thanks for sharing
