In that sense, I would say that Gege's sound is all the more impressive!! I think that just a tad mellower (less treble) would sound even better.

Here is what Gégé used for his live démo. No Meazzi, No Vox amp (he usualy play with one, but it was defective, and used a spare Fender amp), no EF86 (he tested an EF86 preamp a few years ago, but wasn't convinced with the results) :

Of course he used a Strat, but it's a reissue model, not a real vintage one.

Didier, when you say "he tested an EF86 preamp," are you referring to the preamp section of a Vox amp or a separate preamp like Vox Tonelab, or something else ?

I don´t think anyone could come much closer than this, even with a Meazzi!

Bravo Gégé!

Must give credit when it is due. I hear the much coveted low note barks and the sweet tantalizing high notes of Hank's early sound (much similar to D.Martin's 50th Anniversary Shads Guitar sound file demo). I agree with Didier, very few have come this close.

Hi Didier,

What is the bottom unit in Gerard's rack?

Hi Terry,

It's a Behringer Ultracurve, used for EQ.

Merci bien, Didier.

An interesting set up. Presumably, Gerard uses an amp purely for the power amp component as the pre amp stage is taken care of by the Rocktron. Would love to know all the settings but it is, probably, a closely guarded secret as he has spent years perfecting the sound.

Kind regards,

Terry

Hi Terry,

Gégé's main secret is not only about using the right gear, but even more about finding the right settings. He has been steadily working for ten years on this subject...
He can't explain all of his knowledge in a few words, but he has already welcomed in his home studio a few Shad's music fans for a master's class...
