Hi Michel, Dave, Mark, Roger A, Keith, Andy, Barry, Roger B....thanks for your feedback guys!!

Firstly I must say that we have been overwhelmed by the responses via private emails and on the sites. I am pleased many people found it helpful.

The two videos are not just for people that own Meazzi's, Vox Long Toms and TVS3's but for recording methods and for those who want to get that bit closer to a sound that we all love using their own rig by making a few changes to the way they pick, record, place the microphone, etc..

The second Video will show a practical way of how we approach things so I hope the interest will continue as it has been great fun producing this information.
I must say that video editing is tough and at times frustrating work but quite satisfying once its done.

Roger B: Regarding string height I believe a low action with heavy strings(say around 12 - 52) is a step in the right direction... provided the strings dont start clanging.
If you can use 13 -56 for the earlier tunes that may get you a bit closer but we get close with 12 -52 elixir nanowebs.
On my guitars I have low action but I cant remember what string height Paul's 2004 American strat. has.

Cheers

Hi Spike,

A most interesting video - thanks for the work that went into it. Some of the content i've had before in personal correspondence with Paul but there's lots of other stuff which is most informative.

In my personal experience, I've found string guage and set up to be important. I never use less than 12-52s (wound third) with a low action and five springs in the trem housing. I find that this makes the feel and the tuning very stable. I've been even closer to the early sound with another Strat set up with 13-56s and CS54s - this guitar is being fitted with a new neck at the moment but when I get it back, I hope to compare it with the 'Wonderful Land' XD/TVS3 post I did earlier.

The information on mic position is also most informative - I've only experimented with DI recording until now due to lack of decent microphone but I shall try this.

Having spent 50 years trying to get the playing right - it looks like I'm going to have to spend the next 50 years working on the sound engineering!

Lastly, there is no doubt, in my opinion, that the TVS gets me closer to that 'X' factor than anything else I've used.

Kind regards,

Terry

Hi Terry

Must admit when i heard you play at the sussex club i was blown away with your sound with the sunburst strat, very original authentic sound,

My problem has always been that whatever guitar i have used i have always had a couple of people different people that is say how great the guitar sounds and how its pretty close to Hanks thats my old Mex hank marvin strat with kinmans, my classic 50s with CS54s and my Custom Shop 56 Strat. All had different guage strings etc so i never know what combination works best i suppose its different peoples ears is the difference and peoples recollection of what the sound is.

That Peace Pipe is uncannily close. Bet Hank's jealous he can't get it to sound that way nowadays!

Really good :)

Hi Spike,

I've managed to download "The Shadows Gear" printed sheet from the TVS website, but I'd appreciate a few clues about typical control settings that you suggest on each of the various amps (AC15, AC30/4, AC30/6TB 1 & 2).

Regards,

Must congratulate Gary on his voice too.
Is that also going through TVS gear? You've made him sound just like that Herd fella in 1968 !!
( or are you trying to mislead us :) )
