Cliff and the Shads blended so well together from the start and I feel their earlier hits, in particular, have a magic all their own.
Most aren't very complex at first glance (at least until I try to play them) but they have a unique sound and atmosphere that captures the period so well.
Later tunes/songs from Cliff & Co became more technically efficient, if that's the right description, but although I appreciate and enjoy playing many of these, the freshness of the early period still shines through in my opinion.
