I agree with the recent comments.

After carrying out a lot of work and extensive modifications on numerous Meazzi tape echoes including those of Phil Kelly and Colin Price Jones, I have absolutely no doubt
that although you can get a great sound from them, it is necessary to use further equipment in order to get close to the early recorded sound that most if not all of us
strive for.

For me the acid test for any echo/amp/guitar set up has always been the 'Happy Birthday' tone as found on Cliff's '21 Today' album.

If a set-up can emulate that sound, that'll do me.

The closest you might get is sounds such as from the ABC KIngston Concert and perhaps the the one at the Paris Olympia around 1962 but if you did an AB test there would still be significant differences from the Malcolm Addey post mixes.

But we'll keep trying, Spike! And with a live chorus, strings, and horns to boot! Hope springs eternal! :)

Tell us to break a leg!

Hi Andy

When are you guys going to tour the UK (or Europe) ?

I'll gladly pay to watch the show (even if the lead guitarist has his leg in a cast )

Dick.

The thing also with the Shadows live sound as at Kingston etc is that we surely understand that the recorded sound has been engineered ? of course it was ! That is why no Meazzi or other echo unit out of the box will do the sound without further eq and other studio manipulation .

I said it earlier and I say it again the eTap2HW was played one evening alongside a Meazzi and the eTap2HW had a great echo sound to equal the Meazzi and I went ahead and bought one because that in itself convinced me it was a great unit.

Hi Roger

Even though I said that you need EQ, etc...to get to that early sound, the Meazzi and its relatives have a close core tone to start with....which means they can be EQ'd to get to that early sound.
I am yet to be convinced of any other echo unit to have been EQ'd to match the early records.
I also know that in several cases and on certain tunes we havent needed to use hardly any EQ to get it right.

I have bought more echo machines than anyone I know over the years but when I received my Meazzi from Germany, I finally had something I could work with.
Mind you the Meazzi I bought had a very special core tone and singing quality about it...which Paul was able to replicate.
(I also hear a similar tone in CPJ and PK's Meazzi's as modified by Roger A.)
So from there the TVS range was developed but without the noise, wear and tear factors and high repair cost that came with the great Meazzi.

Hi Spike, I remember those days back on Ade's site when your first started with your meazzi and the tvs. I think both units bring something to the table, I'd like to get an etap in the near future. If I had the funds I'd have a tvs aswell. But so far no matter what units I've had over the last 12 years (a few) I have never strayed away from my Ese, when I have its never been for long. Horse for courses.
