MORE stuff I recorded with the Hall & Collins

Postby dave robinson » 03 May 2015, 17:14

Had a session today, Sunday, G&L Strat, Hall & Collins, Vox AC4 miked with my AKG C-1000.
All one take so it's warts and all. 8-)

Had another session after finding a glitch with the mixing software, decided to swap the amp and try the Vox Mini 3, everything els the same as on Sunday. Check these out.

I agree, nothing more to say really, except imagine how good it could sound with a bit of effort. 8-)

Yes I've just noticed it myself, I'll correct it all tomorrow. Apparently some of the lead parts were panned without my authority and I just corrected the track Cosy. I was listening on a. Big system and everything was great, but not on my iPad.
Can you tell me which tracks in particular please? :)

Yep, theres a big difference on Cosy, for a moment I thought you were using a zoom 508 with a heap of reverb (lol), regards gary :D

I didn't know what the software had done as it all sounded good through the big system and because it's to the side of me I did't pick up the stereo image. When I played some tracks back on my iPad I couldn't believe what I was hearing, in some cases as you describe, I was horrified.
I have had requests to do one or two that I missed, so I'll sort them tomorrow.
Thank you for taking the time to listen. :)

OK there are some new ones and re makes of the ones I mixed wrongly. ;)

I realise that I have recorded all old stuff, but I will add some of the later stuff to show that the Hall & Collins does do the modern sound as well.

That's a big improvement Dave... (and what fantastic progress you've made to be able to play like this again after where you found yourself a year ago.)

My ears are not as good as they were, but having listened to your recent tracks with all three of the current machines using quality headphones, the Zoom has a slightly metallic quality to the echoes, the eTap recordings largely lose that, and the H&C really nails it all...

I particularly like your middle pickup sounds ... is this all recorded with the G&L? And it would be worth sending your chip back to Ecca for a further upgrade - this is my second. The latest eTap is better still, and I await the arrival of my H&C so I can do a comparative test for myself...

Hi David, I've had a note from Steve Mitchell regarding new etap mods that ecca doesn't seem to be doing, and advised me to look at Phillip Hawthorne echotapper blog, he says they are working on a new super etap !!. He tells me the 'halo' mod makes a big difference.
