FRENCH RENDEZ-VOUS. MAJOR REVISED SOUND FILE

Postby Stratpicker » 28 Sep 2015, 20:46

This is not something I usually do - I have put this Sound File back on the Forum. It has been the subject of some major revisions to get it to be closer to Pierre Teodori's original.
Those reading the original Post may remember that I was unhappy about the drums that I HAD to use ex-BandInABox. Nothing wrong with them per se, but they were not right for the tune, and were desperately short of Ooomph in the kick drum etc etc. However, Phil Coggan, a friend of mine in South Wales came to the rescue with a totally new drum track, made from scratch, that closely followed the original recording. He said I had had the “right drums but not necessarily in the right order” lol!! Difference is - He got it RIGHT.
And I took the opportunity to fix several bad notes and bits of poor playing technique by re-recording some of the Lead line and fixing the elusive “panned to the left” Lead problem when it SHOULD have been central. It IS now!
I hope you, like me, think it was all worthwhile. I am so very grateful to Phil who took it upon himself not only to make the drum track but also add an extra string track and also do the final mixdown and master that you now hear using his “Starship Enterprise” (lol!) desk.
I hope it meets with your approval.
Cheers Ian and PhilC

Hello Ian - a great improvement on your Mk 1 version. Good co-operation with Phil Coggan.

I assume that some of the Bandinabox backing is still used and I was wondering whether it gives you complete control of the bass guitar. I mention this only because with your track now being much closer to the original, I notice that the bass line is a little different to P.T.

Hi Roger
Thanks for having another listen.
All the BIAB tracks remain (Bass guitar, acoustic guitars, synths) apart from the drums, which Phil created.
Unfortunately BIAB does not have the ability to make, say, the Bass guitar follow exactly the notes you want. You can 'con' it when you need a specific Bass note to a chord by inputting it as 'C/G' and getting a G bass note but that's about it. That's why it doesn't follow PTs. AND I also wanted a bit of bass in the Piano sections to give it some extra when playing it Live.
Cheers
Ian

Hi Keith
THank you. I hope you are keeping well.
The track is from the same Pierre Teodori album - "Influences" - that also has Farewell My Lovely and A Heart Will Break Tonight that The Shads recorded.
Gotta love that Brason!! Awesome guitar. Never come across one quite like it for tone , sustain and sheer playability.
I understand that Alan Brason no longer makes complete guitars any more.
Cheers
