WINDSONG - A GLOBAL COLLABORATION

Postby Stratpicker » 28 Aug 2016, 12:14

A truly Global Collaboration.
This all started during a visit here by Kay Das and our fun and excellent jam session together. I was showing Kay how Band In A Box works and he was talking about a tune he worked on some years ago called "Windsong". Before we knew it, we had noodled through some chords for it and had the guts of a backing entered in BB. Subsequently I refined them into a proper BT but initially it was good enough to jam to within quite a short time.
Kay then went back to L.A. where he recorded his Hawaiian track in his unmistakable and distinctive style to the completed BT. I recorded mine in good old Wolverhampton!! lol!
Then our Collaboration grew. I am indebted to my fellow BIAB-er Jan De Greyze in Holland for his co-operation and tireless assistance in true Collaboration style in, first of all getting the percussion right and also for his musical ability in creating the Brass sections for my BT and then for his technical skills in finally taking ALL the tracks from me to his DAW for this final Mix. Lovely job, Jan. Thank you so much.
About the tune - in 2002, ,Chick Holland (he of 'Arabian Sunset') wrote this beautiful melody about Tahiti called "WindSong". It appears on a couple of Chick's CD's, "Advancing Shadows" and "Sunshine And Shadows".. it was also recorded as a vocal by Rachel Dickson ( excellent video on YT). Later Kay went into Chick's studio to overdub his Hawaiian lap steel onto the track for yet another version which can be found on Kay's YT tube with a very pretty video.
We hope that you enjoy our International Collaboration..
Ian, Kay and Jan.

Thank you Bri - much appreciated. A lot of hard work went into this and I was beginning to think that this one would get "Nil Point" like my last one, which I removed in the end - and no-one noticed!

Good for you, Bri. Sounds a great holiday.
I posted a pretty decent (if I say so myself) copy of Hank Marvins version of "You've Got A Friend". Absolute rarity - no-one has done it before and I had to make my own BT as its VERY difefrent to the original.

It totally bombed! Not a single comment - not even "clear off"! lol!!
So, after three days I pulled it.
I think I'll give up on posting here. "I took my harp to a party" etc etc
Cheers

"You've got a friend" here! Loved it! Not been on the site, or even the computer, much lately due to long lasting health problems. "Windsong" was good too. Please keep posting. I always look for your tunes first when I am on the site, and "nine times out of ten", June and I both enjoy listening to them, even if I don't always comment.
