The Shadows at Radio Luxembourg (sound-files)

OK, many readers here will already have these recordings in some form or other, most probably in the form of an nth-generation compact cassette passed to them by another fan some time in the dim and/or distant past.

That's exactly how I got these (well over twenty years ago), but until yesterday, the cassette had been misfiled and I had assumed I'd lost it, but I found it inside a cassette case with the wrong paper insert and decided to do some editing and such restoration as was possible, especially noise-reduction. A few of the tracks had incomplete introductions which were relatively easy to fix with a borrowed musical phrase from elsewhere within the recording. A couple had to be significantly speed-corrected: Cliff Richard sounded a bit like Alvin from The Chipmunks.

You can download them from here: https://mega.nz/#F!BQkEBaYK!rvUqRiJvdxj0jSXLeXKUeA

They are mono wavs (not mp3) but even so, the size of the whole folder containing 14 tracks is only 125 Mb (next to nothing in terms of a broadband connection).

Most of the tracks (recorded within Radio Luxembourg's London studio for later playout on the radio station) are similar to the issued EMI versions, but there are a few which were never recorded at all in the original format, eg, Cerveza, 3:30 Blues, Dooby Dooby Wah and Walk - Don't Run!, plus an early arrangement of Quatermasster's Stores which is markedly different from the later recorded version and which could have done with another take or two...

Anyway, see what you think.

Jim,

Many thanks indeed for posting these. They bring back many enjoyable memories of listening to Cliff and the Shadows in those early days now nearly 60 years ago, via a fluctuating signal on my transistor radio hidden under the bedclothes where my parents couldn't hear it. :-)

Cheers,

Ian

Hi Jim,

Many thanks for uploading these recordings. You have enhanced the 'usual' quality quite a lot, a great job.
I am still trying to convice a person to share his reel-to-reel tapes on which he has FM recordings of the full set of shows, up to now without much success. I have only got a few bits. Hope never dies!

Thanks again!

Thanks very much for that Jim, a few tracks I have never heard before. Interesting to hear the early arrangement of Quatermasster`s Stores, glad they reworked it :-)
