"Air Mail Special" (non stop ...)

Postby abel » 03 Dec 2019, 07:28

Hi all,

I hope you are all in good health and spirit this Christmas Time.

Here is my take on "Air Mail Special" (Benny Goodman, James Mundy and Charlie Christian).
I added "non stop" because I overkilled it with riffs when I really should have taken some break.
I even threw in a Glenn Miller theme in the middle, it came naturally.
The sound and the mix are terrible ... it's live.

Hope you like it

Merry Christmas to all,
Abel

... and that’s jazz!

Terrific playing Abel. Airmail Special was the signature tune of a radio programme I was involved in 40 years ago. I wish we could have used your version!

Glad you liked it despite the sound Iain.

What a coincidence. I just discovered the tune a month ago.
Then you sure have noticed all the shortcoming compared to the incredible original.

Blessings and Merry Christmas to all,
Abel

A number of bands did it. The version I like best was by Lionel Hampton.

No shortcomings. If you’re going to replace a full brass section with a guitar it’s bound to be different. I think your treatment of it is great.
