My first attempt

In a moment of madness and because I've been posting so much about my wonderful new Strat, I've put an annotated (low fidelity sound) video of Wonderful Land on my own website at

As the video isn't embedded in a page, (YouTube isn't ready for me yet ) , it's just a matter of saving the file and playing back if anyone is interested.
This is about the best I can do at the moment and any criticism is welcome (especially if anyone notices anything I'm doing wrong that might affect the pitch and solve my intonation problems).

That's brilliant for a first attempt. Well done - obviously, you've put in a lot of practice since taking up the instrument.

Don't worry about the positioning for the moment - just work on the fluency. Most of us played W.L. in that position when we started. However, when you become more confident you can experiment with playing around the 5th & 7th frets moving across the fret board which makes life easier as all the notes are close together.

You should feel very encouraged by this offering - keep up the good work.

Oh, and by the way, I didn't notice any great issue with tuning or intonation.

I still play it in that position, and I've been playing for 45 years, (I started very young!)
Don't worry about not looking up. That too comes with practise and confidence. I tend to look at where my fingers are going to when I am allowed to play lead.
Keep it up, and keep on letting us POMS know how you are getting on. You have quite a following over here now.

Rosemary - it is really wonderful to see that you so obviously enjoy and get energy from playing....and THAT is what is important. Perfection / Imperfection - it's all a state of mind and opinion that really means very little. Keep going....you are doing great! In time, everything else will come. Trust me - we have all been there...It is a really fantastic post. Well done!

Bravo Rosemary! You have the courage (which I lack) and the ability. It's all there and any polish needed will come soon enough. Hey, I bet that felt good too, didn't it?! That's the joy that playing music brings and that's why we do it.

Thanks very much to everyone for your encouraging words. I thought it would be nice to show the guitar in action too, rather than only write about the problems I'm having although by using the digital delay there are fewer pitch problems than without. Anyway it's time I got stuck into some housework before doing some more practice. There are about half a dozen tunes at various stages, I'm working on at the moment.
