what a great sound. but what i dont understand though is why hank didnt sound like that on the last tour, when he has a tvs3,jmi amp? or is it down to the mixing etc?

Hi Chippy

Thanks for your comments mate.

One of the reasons why he didnt get this sound is that for starters, he was playing it live. Having said that other venues where the echo settings were changed by the various sound engineers Hank used gave him a totally different sound.
In addition different venues would have also had an affect. I was also informed by people that at the New Zealand and other parts of the world Hank had a close ABC concert live sound.
Here we were trying to recreate the sound the way it was EQ'd at Abbey Road by Malcolm Addey.
In addition If you watch the THAT SOUND video on the sites it will give you a better idea of why this happened. Things like the guitars, amps, mike placement, picking styles and Hank wanting Paul to remove the WOW FLUTTER, etc...

We will be showing on the second video a more practical way that we approach that early sound so it may pay to watch that and ask a few more questions after so in the meantime check out the THAT SOUND video on this site

Cheers

So really its all down to same same old question 'did hank get THAT SOUND' on stage in the early 60's? I dont play live so it dont bother me, i would just love to sound like that at home, ive had the same guitar and echo for over 10yrs but have played through various amps (valve and transister) and have not noticed any difference in my sound, which tells me the amp is not an important link in the chain, possibly 10 %. 20 % guitar (pick ups, strings, body structure, plectrum) but i really believe 70 % is down to the echo quality. just my thoughts anyway! hehe. thanks spike for all your input.

Neil.

Hi Spike,
Congratulations to Gary and Paul ... my view is this is actually better than the original and I can't think of any other "covers" (especially Hank and The Shad's own) where this can be said.

As you know, I'm not one who particularly tries to emulate the famous "that sound(s)" ... but appreciate and admire those who do.

With this version it's hard to understand why Dentists all over the UK haven't reported a huge rise in "dropped jaw" syndrome, and ShadowMusic (UK) doesn't reflect that with a few comments.

Have I missed something ??
Regards
George

Hi Neil and George

Thanks for your comments.

Neil: Hopefully our Video 3 will be of some help to get you closer to where you want to go.
I have just posted it .... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WiwfqGoDs28

George:
You are a very kind man and always show your appreciation upfront. I also like your honesty and humbleness.
Regarding your thorough understanding of Dental science, I would further add that the "few comments" of appreciation(which are truly appreciated) are supplemented by the number of hits. :D
Thats good enough for me and thanks for caring :D :D

Cheers
