Had To Be (Heathcliff)

Postby Bruce Cramley » 30 Dec 2011, 12:35

Had To Be (music&lyrics by John Farrar & Tim Rice) is a beautiful song from the musical Heathcliff, this being Cliff Richard's brainchild production from 1996, loosely based on Emily Bronte's Wuthering Heights.

It is surprising that Hank has never recorded this piece (I’m unaware of any recording).

This is our version, with the entire production by my brother Jeff and I.

Hope you enjoy it ...

Hi Geoff, Gert, Ian & Phil - Thanks for your kind comments.

For Gert:
Fortunately I kept a record of most of the recording details and instrument settings used.

The settings used on the KCP Marvin (piggy-back) amp, are listed below, expressed as 12-hour clock-face numbers. On this amp the “zero” position of the knobs is at 07:00 o’clock. Out of interest, this amp is one (of three) of Hank Marvin’s which was used in the Shadows’ 2004 tour, serial number HM-2, I believe the other two were destroyed in a fire.

KCP amp Channel 1:
Volume: 08:00 o'clock
Treble: 01:00
Mid: 01:00
Bass: 09:00
Harmonic: 01:00
Cut: 01:00
Master: 05:00

HBM Signature strat:- Verses: neck pickup, tone=4. Bridge: bridge pickup.

TVS3 echo – using Roland Patch 18

Regards, bruce.
